Heavy Rain and Strong Wind warnings

Heavy Rain and Strong Wind warnings are in place for the Nelson Tasman region. 16 July 2021.
Heavy rainfall on top of rain already fallen may cause flooding in the region.
We recommend that any livestock are shifted away from waterways.
Please take care if you are nearby rivers and be careful on the roads.

Heavy Rain Warning
AREA: NELSON WEST OF MOTUEKA
Starts: 10:00am Fri 16 Jul
Ends: 1:00pm Sat 17 Jul
Expect a further 200 to 320mm of rain to accumulate on top of what has already fallen about the ranges, and 100 to 180mm about the coast. Peak rates of 20 to 30mm per hour about the ranges from late this afternoon.
Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.

AREA: THE INLAND RANGES OF MARLBOROUGH, ALSO THE RICHMOND AND BRYANT RANGES, AND MARLBOROUGH SOUNDS
Starts: 5:00pm Fri 16 Jul
Ends: 2:00pm Sat 17 Jul
Expect 120 to 200mm of rain to accumulate, with peak rates of 20 to 30mm per hour.
Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.
Strong Wind Warning
AREA: NELSON AND BULLER
Starts: 1:00pm Fri 16 Jul
Ends: 7:00am Sat 17 Jul
Strong north to northwest winds are forecast to be severe at times, with gusts of 120 km/h in exposed places.
Strong wind gusts could damage trees, powerlines and unsecured structures. Driving may be hazardous, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.
