St Arnaud

St Arnaud is a popular holiday destination, containing approximately 250 residential and commercial buildings.

Hazards relevant to St Arnaud

St. Arnaud has a permanent population of about 100, with holidaymakers (including day visitors) bringing the population up to 1500-1800 during the Christmas holiday period.  St Arnaud is adjacent to the Rainbow Ski field, which is a popular destination throughout the winter months.

There are numerous accommodation options and various food outlets, but other services are more limited (e.g. one petrol station and one general store).  In terms of emergency services, the area is served by the Lake Rotoiti Voluntary Rural Fire Force, but there is no Police, Ambulance, Fire Brigade or doctor presence.  The Department of Conservation has a significant presence in the area and maintains an office in the township.
