ISSUED BY MetService AT 10:50am 13-Nov-2016 URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Nelson, Buller, Westland, Wairarapa, Wellington, Marlborough
HEAVY RAIN FOR WEST OF SOUTH ISLAND FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON AND SEVERE GALES FROM MONDAY EVENING FOR WELLINGTON MARLBOROUGH AND WAIRARAPA A front is expected to cross the South Island late Monday and early Tuesday preceded by heavy thundery rain and northerly gales. The heaviest falls are expected over the ranges of Westland, Buller and northwest Nelson where 150 to 200 mm could fall from Monday afternoon through to Tuesday morning.
People are advised to watch out for rapidly rising streams and rivers, slips, and surface flooding.
Severe gale north to northwest winds are forecast to develop in exposed parts of Wellington, Wairarapa and Marlborough Monday evening then ease on Tuesday. Winds of this strength could lift roofs and damage trees and cause hazardous driving conditions.
HEAVY RAIN WARNING

Rain is expected to become heavy Monday afternoon and ease Tuesday morning. In 18 hours from midday Monday expect 150 to 200 mm of rain about the ranges and 100 to 150mm near the coast. Heaviest falls of
20 to 30mm per hour in thunderstorms are expected between 3pm Monday and 3am Tuesday.
