Heavy Rain Warning Issued for Nelson Region

Metservice have issued a severe weather warning for our region for heavy rain.

The heaviest and most prolonged rain is forecast to be about Nelson, where 200mm could accumulate about the ranges through to Thursday afternoon.

Rivers may rise rapidly, there may be surface flooding and slips, and driving conditions may be hazardous.

  • Periods of heavy northerly rain are expected today and Thursday.
  • In the 27 hours from midday Wednesday until 3pm Thursday, 150 to 200mm is forecast for the western ranges and 80 to 110mm elsewhere.
  • Peak intensities of 30 to 40mm per hour about the ranges during Thursday.
